Culture and Design virtual gallery

The Culture and design virtual gallery was developed by the Technology Unit with funding from Multicultural Education Programs. The gallery showcases the work of three schools that participated in a pilot program.

Micro documentary: culture and design features micro documentaries that either analyse objects or artefacts and reveals the stories behind them, or examines the influence of a chosen culture on a student’s life, identifying and exploring cultural links using the film design process.

Threads of culture features video-recorded presentations linking the ‘threads’ of textile items that hold considerable cultural significance to students.

Discover the world through soft furnishings features soft furnishings designed by students reflecting the cultural, historical and contemporary influences of a particular culture for a room in a new international hotel.

Soft sculptured dolls features soft sculptured textile art dolls designed by students reflecting the cultural, historical and contemporary influences of a particular culture.

Sustainable Design

The Australian Centre for Craft and Design and CLI have made ten short videos on the directors of five outstanding NSW design studios. The directors talk about their use of the design process, inspirations for design and the influence of sustainability on their design work. School to Work teaching ideas

The School to Work program is a NSW DET initiative to improve the preparation of school leavers moving into the workforce and/or further training. A range of School to Work teaching ideas has been developed to support teachers in the implementation of vocational learning in Design and Technology.

Australian designers at work

Meet designers and learn about how they work. The Australian designers at work web site features designer profiles developed by the Technology Unit, Curriculum K-12 Directorate and supported by the Vocational Education in Schools Directorate of the Department of Education and training in partnership with the Powerhouse Museum.

Strategies to facilitate the design process

A series of strategies are presented in a OneNote notebook. Open the Overview file first and follow the instructions provided. Each strategy facilitates a different stage of the design process. These files are also available as Word documents.
