Food design: budgeting planning
Consumer and financial literacy is about having the knowledge and skills to make good decisions about using and managing money. The Consumer and Financial Literacy Professional Learning Program http://www.financialliteracy.edu.au/ has been designed to build the capacity of teachers in primary and secondary schools to engage students in consumer and financial literacy.
The Technology unit in collaboration with the Technology Educators Association Inc has developed a budgeting planning tool to allow students to cost recipes. Resources to support the use of this tool are listed below.
My Recipe Calculator
An Excel spreadsheet: students can calculate the cost of a recipe on a per serve basis with minimal input of data. Use an online supermarket web site or brochures for prices. A version with space for inserting the method is also provided. Instructions for use are provided as a PowerPoint presentation.
